That's me. In the second grade.
It was the day of the Scholastic Book Fair. Ah, what a time. My mom had given me $20. They had just re-stocked the funny smelling erasers I loved. Things were great.
Until Todd, the coolest and rudest kid in my second grade class pointed at a book and called my name.
“Emily, this is gonna be you when you grow up!”
The book? The Travel Mom.
The author? Emily Kaufman - a middle-aged lady complete with a pearled necklace and a soccer mom-cut. The whole class looked at me and laughed.
How could there be another Emily Kaufman? I had three Gold stars! I was just elected line-leader. I was unique!
It was at this moment that I realized I would have to do a lot more to be better, cooler, and more famous than the travel mom. To be my own Emily Kaufman and not live in the stepford wife's shadow. Ever since then, I try to be the greatest Emily I can be, and make work that I'm proud to put my name on.
I might not be the Travel Mom, but I'll do my best to make you great work.
